Iwata has other pressing matters to take care of
Nintendo President and CEO Satoru Iwata will not be present at this year’s E3 event.
According to IGN, a Nintendo representative said, “Nintendo’s focus for E3 this year will be showcasing the many games we have coming for both Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.” The representative continued, “Mr. Miyamoto and other members of our development team will be in Los Angeles to explain these games and the unique experiences that each offers. Mr. Iwata’s focus in this period will be on other areas of our business that require his presence in Japan.”
This isn’t the first time that Iwata is absent from the biggest gaming convention that’s held annually in Los Angeles. Last year, the company’s president dealt with health-related issues, thus prevented him from attending. Apparently, Iwata is too busy this time around to fly overseas, given the amount of unspecified duties that he has to fulfill.
On the contrary, Shigeru Miyamoto, video game designer and producer, will make an appearance for this upcoming event. Miyamoto was there with the coverage crew for Nintendo Treehouse: Live @ E3 2014 where he elaborated and demonstrated a slew of projects that he worked on at the time. Since Big-N confirmed the return of the Treehouse stream (which can read here for details) we can guarantee that he’ll be back to deliver new content to the viewers.
IGN reported that Iwata will periodically contact the team in regards to their status at E3. Moreover, he’ll also observe the fan reaction toward Nintendo’s announcements.
Are you disappointed that Iwata is skipping E3 for the second year in a row? Let me know in the comments below.
