Perhaps it’s coming sooner than we expected?
[Update:] This rumor is indeed true since Nintendo of America’s President and COO Reggie Fils-Aime himself confirmed it during the Jan. 14 Nintendo Direct (which can be viewed here).
[Original Story:] You know what they say: “Some secrets were meant to be told,” as NeoGAF user vinnygambi leaks a marketing poster that reveals the North American date for the New Nintendo 3DS.
The New 3DS is the latest hardware revision to Nintendo’s current handheld line. What sets this new iteration apart from the previous models is the beefier processing power and the amiibo functionality that’s integrated into the bottom touch screen. Moreover, the key factor that will probably entice existing customers to upgrade is the vastly improved 3D viewing angles (thanks to the head tracking technology).
It may simply be too good to be true, since the New Nintendo 3DS is allegedly launching a month from today. In addition, the appearance of “The Legend of Zelda: Majora’s Mask 3D” and “Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate” on the poster indicates that it may hit the store shelves on the same day as well. If anything, it would make sense for those two titles to be released alongside with the new hardware, since those respective entries takes advantage of the new C-Stick and ZL/ZR shoulder buttons.
Despite the fact that this rumor has become somewhat trendy on NeoGAF’s Gaming Discussion board, users can’t help but to think that the leaked photo could potentially be fake. After speculating the image for a few minutes, it appears to look legitimate! The lighting difference from the top and bottom, and the crease marks found across the poster is enough evidence to believe that this photo may not have been manipulated at all.
At this point, it’s best to wait for the upcoming Nintendo Direct (which can be read here) since it will most likely confirm whether this information is true or not.
Are you excited that the New Nintendo 3DS might be releasing sooner than we thought? Let me know in the comments below.
